Prescott School Redevelopment Committee Openings

Donate a Tent to Help a Family in Haiti

The Groton Exchange will be collecting gently used tents on Saturday, March 6th and Sunday, March 7th from 6am to 4pm to help families in Haiti devastated by the recent earthquake. If you would rather donate money toward a tent, then make your check out to "Share a Shelter" and give it to the attendant at the cash register. If you have questions, contact Wendy Moores at 978-807-9144 or via email at mooresy@aol.com.

Dog Registration

Avoid paying a late fee with your dog registration. Annual dog registrations are due no later than March 1, 2010. The dog registration fee is $10 per spayed or neutered dog, $15 for an unaltered dog. The late fee, effective March 2, is $10 per dog.

Dogs can be registered at the Town Clerk’s office, 173 Main St. Office hours are Mondays 8:30 am to 7:00 pm, Tuesday through Thursday 8:30-4:30 and Fridays 9-4. Online registration is also available here. Look for the Town Clerk’s department and select Dog Registration. The Town Clerk may also be reached at 978-448-1100.

Street Naming and Building Numbering Regulations Adopted

The Board of Selectmen have adopted new regulations pertaining to street naming and building numbering. The full text can be found here.

Community Preservation Committee Hearing - March 2, 2010 at Legion Hall

The Groton Community Preservation Committee (CPC) will hold a public hearing on Tuesday, March 2, 2010 at 7:30pm at Legion Hall, 75 Hollis Street, Groton to receive public input on new Community Preservation Act proposals (if any) to recommend to Town meeting for funding. A positive recommendation by the CPC will send a proposal to the 2010 Annual Town Meeting where voters will decide whether or not to fund the project from the Town’s Community Preservation Fund. Copies of the proposals are available at the Groton Public Library.

Groton Town Census

Groton Town Census forms were mailed to all households the first week of January. We appreciate your efforts in returning these forms to the Town Clerk’s office by the end of February.

During March and April, you will also be receiving the Federal Census Form. The Federal Government conducts a census every 10 years. The Federal Census is a separate activity from the Town census. The Federal Census affects our State’s standing in Congress and federal funding.

Dog Registrations are also due by the end of February. Dogs may be registered in person at the Town Clerk’s office, by mail or on-line here. Avoid late fees – register your dog now!

Groton Election Nomination Papers

Nomination papers for Groton’s Annual Town Election are available as of February 1, 2010. Nomination papers can be obtained at the Town Clerk’s office, 173 Main St. Each year, seats on most elected boards are open for election. This year, the seats are open on several boards and commissions. Click here for more information.

If you would like to run for a board or commission, please fill out the following Candidate Background Sheet to let residents know something about you. Completed forms should be returned to the Town Clerk in Town Hall, faxed to (978) 448-2030 or emailed to townclerk@townofgroton.org.

Fiscal Year 2011 Budget Information

United States Census Bureau Information

The United States Census Bureau will be hiring people to work on the 2010 Census and will be using Groton's Legion Hall as a testing space for applicants wanting to work for the 2010 Census. If you are interested, you may call 1-866-861-2010 or visit the website www.2010censusjobs.gov.

Groton, founded in 1655, has a population of 10,406 (2006 Town Census) and is located in the Nashoba Valley area in northwestern Middlesex County. The town is governed by Town Meeting. With an area of 32.54 square miles, Groton is the largest town in Middlesex County. There are 106 miles of plowed or maintained roads within the town. Town Hall is 320 feet above sea level and the highest elevation is at Chestnut Hills at 516 feet above sea level.
